Long Beach, Calif. — American Circulation Innovations (ACI) has named John G. Walsh as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Walsh, who officially joins ACI on March 19, most recently served as senior vice president of operations for The Dallas Morning News. Walsh has also held senior leadership positions, encompassing circulation, production and information technology with The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, The Orange County Register and The Chicago Tribune as well as other newspapers.

“John is an industry-leading senior executive,” said Keith Somers, ACI president. “He shares our passion for serving our customers and growing our operation to meet industry demands.”

Walsh’s recent accomplishments include an overhaul of distribution operations at The Dallas Morning News to create greater operating efficiencies and better serve home-delivered and single-copy customers. These changes earned The Dallas Morning News top scores for service and performance from national clients such as The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and Investor’s Business Daily. Further, the newspaper leveraged new mid-week sub-zip zoning capabilities to forge a co-distribution agreement with Valassis, allowing them to better serve advertiser and reader needs across the DFW market.

“I was initially attracted to ACI because of their strong commitment to client satisfaction and their dedication to operational excellence. I was further impressed by Keith and the team at ACI, as they have led the industry in developing new approaches to distribution challenges,” said Walsh. “I’m excited to be joining a company that offers its clients such a broad portfolio of distribution solutions. Having the ability to fulfill the diverse needs of its clients in these times of change is a definite competitive advantage for ACI.”

Somers added, “During these challenging times, publishers are looking for innovative and effective solutions. John’s track record as a change agent further enhances our ability to generate value for our publishing partners.”

ACI expanded into Texas in February, installing a distribution program for The Victoria Advocate, and currently operates in more than a dozen markets nationwide.
