Central Ohio Publisher Hartley Retires

Don Hartley, publisher of The Madison Press, London, Ohio, is retiring after 27 years in the position. Hartley also is retiring as publisher of the weekly Mechanicsburg Telegram, Mount Sterling Tribune, and Plain City Advocate and Weekly Review.

Hartley, 57, served as vice president of newspaper publisher and commercial printer Central Ohio Printing Co. when Brown Publishing bought it last month from Cleveland Newspapers Inc. of Birmingham, Ala. He worked his way up from typesetter in the late 1960s, after his father bought Central Ohio Printing.

David Copen, group publisher for Brown Publishing Co.’s Central Ohio region, was named interim publisher of the 6,000-circulation daily and 22,000-circulation (total) weeklies.
