John Mennenga, 70, died on January 21, 2011, in Sarasota, FL.
Mennenga spent his career in the newspaper industry and worked for many newspapers throughout the country as a marketing researcher, including the Minneapolis Star & Tribune, The San Mateo Times, The Tampa Times/Tribune, The World Herald and the Des Moines Register. He worked at Sawyer Ferguson & Walker, an independent newspaper sales representative firm for over 15 years. At the time of his death, he maintained an independent consulting business and served as Executive Director of the Independent Newspaper Group. He was a board member of the Newspaper Research Council, INMA, and Newspaper Association of America. In 2002, he received the NAA’s Award of Merit for his contributions to the newspaper industry. He was a friend and mentor to many in the field.
