Mark Sherwood has been named advertising director of the Antelope Valley Press in Palmdale, Calif.
Sherwood, who formerly was an advertising manager for the Philadelphia (Pa.) Inquirer and the Las Vegas (Nev.) Review-Journal, will be responsible for leading the Valley Press’ retail, national, online and classified sales staff.
“He has so much experience in the advertising field. We are glad to have him,” said Cherie Bryant, Antelope Valley Press vice president and general manager.
Sherwood, a Palmdale resident, is married and the father of four children, two who will attend Quartz Hill High School in the fall, one in middle school and one in college.
Sherwood comes to the Valley Press from Las Vegas, where most recently he was regional vice president for VeriFone Media and publisher of the leading Las Vegas magazine aimed at tourists.
From 2010 to 2012, he was a Nevada state Assemblyman representing Henderson, Nev.
A graduate of Brigham Young University, he started his media career as a research analyst in New York City for Petry Television, handling Nielsen data for stations in Los Angeles, Seattle, Cleveland, Milwaukee and Hartford, Conn.
“This is why Warren Buffett loves newspaper,” Sherwood said, referring to the billionaire whose company owns 32 daily newspapers and 47 weekly newspapers. “The Antelope Valley is the type of community and the type of heritage that makes Warren Buffett bullish on community news.”
