Jeff Arnold, sports editor for the Daily Mining Gazette (Mich.), died August 14 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on August 13 in Chicago.

Arnold, 26, was traveling on Lake Shore Drive around 1:30 a.m. when he lost control of his brother’s Cadillac SRX and struck a barrier on the right side of the road. The car then skidded across the highway and hit a concrete median head-on. Arnold, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained massive head injuries.

“”All of us here at the Mining Gazette are saddened to lose Jeff,”” said Mike Bird, the newspaper’s publisher, in an article on the paper’s Web site. “”Jeff was an asset to this newspaper as well as to the many friends he had amongst us. Our deepest condolences to his family in this tragic time for them. Jeff will be missed.””
