Arlington, Va.–The Newspaper Association of America has announced the retirement of president and CEO John F. Sturm, effective September 2011. Sturm was named president and CEO in 1995 and during his tenure, he increased member participation and introduced a number of key strategic product and service offerings for the benefit of members, the industry and newspaper readers. Previously, Sturm served for four years as NAA senior vice president of public policy and general counsel. Sturm joined NAA from CBS Inc., where he was vice president of government affairs in CBS’s Washington D.C. office for eight years. Prior to that, he served as senior counsel in NBC’s Washington office. He held several positions at the Federal Communications Commission, including assistant to the FCC Chairman, before entering the private sector.
