Kevin Weston, who sought to take journalism in new directions while giving voice to communities often left behind, died June 16 at his home in Oakland after battling a rare form of leukemia. He was 45.
During his unusual career, Mr. Weston served as an editor at Pacific News Service and Yo! Youth Outlook, prodding and nurturing young people to write about their lives and the worlds they encountered.
