Len Valenti, Former Daily News Copy Desk Chief, Dead at 76

Leonard (Len) Valenti, a former copy desk chief at the Daily News, has died of complications from a heart condition. He was 76.

Valenti, who died Monday, retired from The News in 1996, after 25 years as a copy editor and chief of the paper’s copy desk. After moving to Boca Raton, Fla., the same year, Valenti worked for the Sun Sentinel in various editorial roles for eight years.

In his long career, the Hunter College alum also was a part-time journalism instructor at Long Island University in the 1970s.

Valenti is survived by his wife, Joan; sons Robert and Michael; four grandchildren, Robert, Christopher, Anthony and Allison, and a great-granddaughter Mikeala.
