Bette Cornwell knew how to make money in the weekly newspaper business.
Husband Jim was a traditional newspaperman, and he directed the editorial and advertising operations of the Murray-based Green Sheet newspapers. But it was Bette Cornwell who signed the paychecks and oversaw all of the other money matters that enabled the paper to thrive for three decades in the central Salt Lake Valley.
She died Tuesday in a Holladay care center at the age of 88. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent’s de Paul Catholic Church, followed by burial in Murray City Cemetery.
