‘Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’ Movie Editor Ron Weiskind, 54, Dies of Liver Failure

Ron Weiskind, 54, a movie editor at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, died of liver failure Nov. 11.

Weiskind joined the Post-Gazette as a copy editor in 1980. He became the paper’s TV and radio critic in 1984 and later expanded his beat to include movies, theater, and art when he was named entertainment critic in 1992. He became movie editor in 1997.

Weiskind graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 1972 and covered crime and politics at The Lorain Journal in Elyria, Ohio, in the 1970s. He also edited the paper’s weekly entertainment magazine, Tempo.

Doctors at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center discovered a cancerous growth and removed a kidney when Weiskind was hospitalized earlier this year. He became ill again several weeks ago.
