SASKATOON, Canada – Postmedia has appointed a veteran of digital content as the editor-in-chief at two newspapers in Saskatchewan.
The company says Rob McLaughlin will become editor-in-chief and deputy publisher at The Star Phoenix in Saskatoon and editor-in-chief at the Leader-Post in Regina, effective April 4.
In those roles, McLaughlin will oversee the transformation of the newsrooms into organizations focused on digital and online content. His responsibilities will include working with other departments to make changes that drive revenue, grow circulation and build print and online audiences.
Digital content has been marked as a key strategic priority for the company that took over the former Canwest newspapers and online properties.
McLaughlin, who was raised in Saskatchewan, was most recently director of digital content and strategy at the National Film Board of Canada. Prior to that, he was director of digital programming at CBC.
