(AP) Award-winning sports columnist Gary Lundy died suddenly Monday after becoming ill at work at The Knoxville News Sentinel. He was 49.
Colleagues said Lundy apparently suffered a heart attack. He died at Fort Sanders Medical Center.
Lundy, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, had been a sports journalist for 27 years. He worked for the afternoon Knoxville Journal until it folded in 1992, then moved to the News Sentinel.
He was named Tennessee Sportswriter of the Year four times by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association and twice by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. He also received honors from the Associated Press Sports Editors.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy, and a son.
