Tampa, Fla.–William R. Barker has been named president and publisher of The Tampa Tribune. Barker has been vice president of operations for The Tampa Tribune since 2004.
Before Barker joined The Tampa Tribune in 2004, he was director of operations for the Richmond (Va.) Times-Dispatch from 1996-2004. He joined the Times-Dispatch in 1990 as assistant production director and was later promoted to production director. Prior to joining the Times-Dispatch, he held various positions with Gannett, Inc. and USA Today.
Barker is a former board member and chairman of Printing Industries of Virginia. In 2002, he was honored as one of Presstime magazine’s top “20 Under 40” and he was named one of Editor & Publisher’s “Production All-Stars” in 2009. He is a 2003 graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond and a 2005 graduate of Media General’s Leadership Development Program.
