The Huntsville Item Announces New Publisher

By: Press Release

HUNTSVILLE, TX – Amy Lee has joined The Huntsville Item as its new publisher.

Lee began work at The Item on Wednesday, leaving a position at the Glasgow Daily Times in Kentucky as that paper’s general manager and advertising director. She replaces outgoing Item publisher Dennis Garrison, who resigned to pursue other interests.

“Amy has done an outstanding job in Glasgow in a key leadership role. This prepared her well for the next step, leading her own newspaper,” said Keith Ponder, Sun Belt Division manager of The Item’s parent company, Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc. “Personally and professionally I’ll miss having her as part of the (Glasgow Daily Times), but she’s going to a terrific newspaper in an outstanding community, and it’s been her objective to prepare herself for this day.”

Lee holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Texas A&M University. Prior to taking a position at the Glasgow Daily Times, she served in several capacities at the Suburban Journals of Greater St. Louis, Mo., owned by Lee Enterprises. These included entertainment editor, home and garden editor and advertising director.

“I am happy to return to Texas, and the fact that The Huntsville Item is so close to Aggieland made my decision to move back to the Lone Star state that much easier,” Lee said. “Being publisher has always been a goal of mine. In fact, I listed being a newspaper publisher as a goal of mine in my senior-year yearbook.”

Lee said her immediate goal is to have an impact on furthering the quality of The Huntsville Item.

“My goal is that The Item consistently deliver a quality product each and every day via the daily paper or online at,” Lee said. “Since 1850 The Item has been this community’s source for local news. My objectives are to grow revenue, readership and circulation with a commitment to daily excellence, which will allow us to continue to be the trusted choice for community news in Huntsville.”
