Thomas Turner, Publisher of Missouri’s ‘Lake Sun Leader,’ Dies at 57

Thomas A. Turner Jr., publisher of the Lake Sun Leader, died Saturday at his home in Sunrise Beach. He was 57.

A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, Turner had been head of Lake Media One publishing for 16 years. Lake Media One publications include the Leader, Missouri Ozarks Publishing, Vacation News and Vision Media.

Turner was born May 4, 1949, in Columbia, the son of Thomas A. and Dorothy A. Turner. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1973, and in 1989 married Janet Lee Jairett.

He is survived by his wife, Jan; a son, Jeff Turner of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a step-daughter, Kim Hurshman of Springfield; a step-son, Mark Monroe of Pinetop, Ariz.; sisters Sharon A. Vick, Karen A. Harms and Roxanne M. Gentry, all of Columbia; brothers Tim A. Turner, Todd A. Turner and Brian M. Turner, all of Columbia; two grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
