UK’s Johnston Press Appoints New Chief Executive


United Kingdom–Johnston Press, owner of the Yorkshire Post, has appointed Ashley Highfield, a senior executive of Microsoft, as its new chief executive, effective Nov. 1. Highfield will succeed John Fry. As vice-president of Microsoft, he is responsible for its UK consumer and online business, including content portal Microsoft News (MSN). He was previously director of new media and technology at the BBC where he was responsible for the launch of the BBC iPlayer and was also editor-in-chief of BBC Online, after which he became chief executive of the video-on-demand BBC, ITV and C4 joint venture Project Kangaroo.
