Scorched Earth

A Los Angeles fire department truck makes its way through burnt valley brush during the more than 3,000-acre Buck Fire in Riverside County, Calif., on Aug. 15, 2012. More than 400 firefighters were called in from around the state to help battle the blaze in the rocky foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains. One resident and two firefighters were injured the first day of the fire.
