A new beat for Annie Karni at The New York Times

Posted

We’re very happy to tell you that Annie Karni, who has covered the White House for us for the past three years, will be joining our formidable congressional team to cover Capitol Hill.

During the Trump administration Annie reported extensively on the 2020 campaign, the Republican National Convention, Trump’s response to the coronavirus and the roles of the former president’s family members in his inner circle. In the first year of the Biden presidency she has covered the fallout from the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the administration’s attempt to address vaccine hesitancy and frustrations from progressives on issues like gun violence and voting rights.

Annie will join Carl Hulse, Jonathan Weisman, Emily Cochrane, Catie Edmondson and Luke Broadwater on the Hill, where she will focus on social issues, including abortion rights and guns, ahead of the midterm elections. She’ll also write features and profiles about the issues and players behind the news from Capitol Hill.

Before coming to The Times, Annie covered the White House and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign for Politico. Before that she spent a decade covering City Hall and local politics for the New York Post, the New York Daily News and The New York Sun.

She starts on the Hill next Tuesday, Jan. 18. Please congratulate her!
