A new role for Ben Shpigel at The New York Times

Posted

We’re thrilled to announce that Ben Shpigel, sports reporter and wordsmith extraordinaire, is joining Live as a reporter and editor.

Over the last 17 years at The Times, Ben has reported on more sports than Tom Brady has played Super Bowls, all with elegance and expertise. He smoked out José Reyes in the mountains of the Dominican Republic after the Mets’ (first) collapse. He spent a night in a Kansas City tattoo parlor watching a Chiefs fan get Patrick Mahomes’s face inked on his leg. He chronicled, to the delight of his Eagles-loving friends and family, Philadelphia’s first Super Bowl title in an award-winning story.

Football. Baseball. Basketball. Even goalball. He has covered them all. And now, he is shifting gears. Ben, after embedding on the Audience team, will bring his collaborative spirit, reporter’s instincts and editor’s heart to the Live Team.

Before joining The Times, he worked at The Dallas Morning News.
