A new role for Jessica Grose at The New York Times

For years, Jessica Grose has deftly helped readers navigate the vast and confusing world of parenting.

In 2018, she joined The Times as the founding editor of our Parenting section and two years later continued to command that coverage as it became a part of Well. She is a prolific writer and thinker, and her advice and reporting during the COVID-19 pandemic helped parents understand the impacts that this period of isolation and stress might have on kids. She wrote about screaming mothers, childcare deficits and the domestic work gap between men and women — among many other things.

Her attention to detail in her NYT Parenting Newsletter, her insistence on celebrating "tiny victories,” and her hilariously real anecdotes made her reporting and observations fresh and relatable for parents, which is a large and important subset of our readership.

People took notice of her success. In 2020, she was named one of  Glamour’s “Game Changers,” for her work “revolutionizing” parenting advice and appeared on television and radio, becoming a trusted voice on the subject.

Jessica is now moving to Opinion, where she’ll write a subscriber-only newsletter about what it means to be a parent — economically and culturally. She plans to expand her range of topics while bringing in even more voices to help her show the full reality of parenting in America today. It’s an exciting next step in our subscriber-only initiative and a welcome addition to its diverse portfolio of writers.

Over the past nine months, under the guidance of Lori Leibovich, Well has experienced exponential growth covering every aspect of personal health and wellness. Well will continue to provide science-backed service and enterprise reporting, as well as first-person narratives as part of their coverage of families and relationships in a changing world.

We’re excited for Jessica’s new opportunity with Opinion and know that she’ll continue to bring Times readers thoughtful and expert commentary on the world of parenting.
