Anthony Rotunno joins The New York Times Weddings Desk

Posted

We are delighted to announce that Anthony (Tony) Rotunno, a former senior editor of New York magazine’s Strategist section and website, has joined our Weddings desk as a new staff editor. He will work closely with editors across the Weddings/Styles desk to create dynamic coverage for our devoted, growing audience, while also evolving and diversifying our storytelling strategies.

In his two and a half years at New York magazine, Tony oversaw ambitious editorial projects including a series asking ten 2021 New York City mayoral primary candidates about the everyday items they can’t live without, a 13-page guide to pandemic-appropriate gifts, and a celebrity charity auction in partnership with eBay that raised close to $50K for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

Prior to joining The Strategist, Tony served as the editor in chief of the Brooklyn Paper and a handful of other local weekly newspapers, where his work earned him a first-place award for headline writing from the New York Press Association. Before that, he co-founded The Thick, a digital-only media brand that, with its parent company The Wall Group, was acquired by Endeavor in 2015. Tony has also held positions at Departures and Vanity Fair, where he worked as an executive assistant to the magazine’s former editor Graydon Carter (and learned, among other things, about the value of a Mason Pearson brush). He began his career in journalism as a teenage columnist for his hometown newspaper, The Poughkeepsie Journal.

“As a journalist who delights in telling other people’s stories, I am thrilled to join the Weddings desk,” said Tony. “Few things are as universal as love and relationships, and I look forward to working with my Times colleagues to tell stories that provide new ways to understand the topics we’ve covered since 1851.”

Outside of work, Tony is a big fan of spending time with his family, including his two young nephews and hairless Sphynx cat, Pebbles. He also loves to travel, not least because each trip reminds him how there is no greater place than New York City.

Please join us in welcoming Tony to his new role.
