Argus Leader, Gannett sue City of Sioux Falls over legal notices

The Argus Leader is suing the City of Sioux Falls to reinstate this institution as the city’s official newspaper.

The daily newspaper and its parent company Gannett, through its legal counsel, filed a request Monday morning for two injunctions in the state’s Second Judicial Circuit Court.

On June 5, the City Council approved the Dakota Scout, a publication with a weekly printed newspaper founded by two former Argus Leader reporters and in operation since August 2022, to serve as the official newspaper of Sioux Falls for the purpose of publishing legal notices starting July 1.
