Bailey Johnson joins The Washington Post as Washington Capitals beat writer

Announcement from Sports Editor Matt Vita, Sports Deputy Editor Matt Rennie and Sports Assignment Editor Sarah Larimer:

We are happy to welcome Bailey Johnson as our new Washington Capitals beat writer.

Bailey comes to The Post from the Columbus Dispatch, where she covered Major League Soccer’s Crew and the NHL’s Blue Jackets after starting as a high school sports reporter. Before her time at the Dispatch, she interned at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in the fall of 2020, reporting primarily on Georgia and Georgia Tech football and assisting with NFL, NBA and WNBA coverage, as well as early presidential election voting in the state.

She is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where her drive to be a hockey beat writer began.

When she’s not at the hockey arena, Bailey indulges her passion for cooking. She’s also a dog lover who realizes her job isn’t compatible with dog ownership, but she takes any dog-sitting opportunities her schedule allows. She’s often up early on weekends – both as a fan of Formula 1 racing since 2014 and as recent Premier League convert through her coverage of MLS.

Bailey starts June 12. Please join us in welcoming her to The Post.
