Battle escalates over FCC’s new foreign sponsorship ID rules

The back and forth between the National Association of Broadcasters and the Federal Communications Commission over new foreign sponsorship identification rules continued Tuesday with a fresh batch of comments filed by the trade association. In a 13-page missive filed with the agency, NAB claims the underlying FCC order “violates the law.” Specifically, it identifies three legal strikes against how the FCC will require broadcasters to demonstrate that they have met their duty of inquiry in seeking to obtain the information needed to determine whether programming is being provided by a foreign government.
