E&P's Publisher of the Year award to be presented at America's Newspapers Senior Leadership Conference

For over 100 years, Editor & Publisher magazine has been honoring an industry leader as its Publisher of the Year. This year's award will be presented at the Senior Leadership Conference of America's Newspapers, Oct. 16-18 in New Orleans.

“As in the past, we will be devoting our November 2022 cover story to recognize this individual,” said Mike Blinder, publisher of E&P. “As we state on the nomination page at http://www.EditorandPublisher.com/POY, we are seeking your assistance in recognizing a leader with business acumen, technical savvy and a deep understanding of what needs to be done to stay successful — along with the fortitude and tenacity to implement change.”

The America’s Newspapers Senior Leadership Conference is the most important meeting of the year for newspaper publishers, owners and leaders. This year’s meeting will be held at The Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans.

The Senior Leadership Conference isn’t your typical meeting. The focus is on interactive discussions on the critical issues facing our industry. This meeting isn’t full of PowerPoint presentations; rather,  it is consumed with the search for the solutions needed for success. Each session provides opportunities to learn from what others are doing and to share your experiences with your peers. 

The opening reception will be Sunday evening, Oct. 16, and the meeting will conclude late Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 18. This meeting has a special BONUS SESSION Tuesday afternoon at the offices of The Advocate/Times-Picayune. Judi Terzotis, president and publisher, and her team will go through a number of their successful initiatives, followed by a reception at their office.

The State of Local Newspapers: What Advertisers Really Think
Gordon Borrell will unveil the results of year two of this critical research on local advertising markets. You’ll learn how local newspaper advertisers feel about the effectiveness of their advertising and what their spending plans are for the future. This session can inform your strategy for identifying targets to grow your business.

Life in Community Markets
CEOs from smaller community newspaper markets discuss how they are responding to the changing market dynamics and economic challenges, how community markets differ from larger markets and what the industry overall can learn from their efforts.

Dealing with Economic Challenges
2022 has brought a fresh set of economic obstacles to newspapers, following what were already challenging years. This discussion will focus on how newspapers are dealing with increases in raw materials, rising distribution costs, labor shortages, recruiting difficulties and other operational factors impacting the business. Ideas generated by this session alone should pay for the cost of the meeting.

Revenue Evolution
Newspapers of all sizes are diversifying their revenue from the traditional print and digital efforts. From video production to events and other non-traditional programs, this session will focus on the ones that are working and how newspapers of all sizes can make it happen.

Solution Showcase
This session will feature six successful case studies from newspapers working directly with our Solutions Partners. You’ll learn directly about what’s working and how new technologies and programs can translate to revenue or efficiencies for your organization.

The Business of DEI
Building a more diverse and inclusive workforce is at the forefront of most newspapers’ plans.  This session will focus on the business benefits of building diverse teams and how this translates to increased revenue and audience growth.

Conference registration: Newspaper executives

The Senior Leadership Conference is open to current newspaper members of America's Newspapers and their guests.  Guests should not be affiliated with the same organization as the registering attendee, a member of another business serving the industry or an employee of a newspaper organization.

Safety protocols

Safety is our priority!  The Senior Leadership Conference will follow CDC recommendations at the time of the conference. 

Hotel reservations

Information about reserving your hotel room will be sent to you after your conference registration has been received. Room rates in our block start at $279 per night, plus tax.
