Announcement from Foreign Editor Doug Jehl and Deputy Foreign Editor Jennifer Amur:

We are thrilled to announce that Hari Raj will become Seoul hub editor, effective Jan. 10. In this role, Hari will head the South Korea-based breaking news operation that plays a critical role in The Post’s 24/7 global operations.

Hari is a highly experienced editor whose record of rigor, empathy and keen judgment has already made him a trusted leader in Seoul among a team he joined in 2021, not long after its founding. Hari will succeed Kendra Nichols, who is moving from Seoul to London to head the breaking-news operation there.

As hub editor, Hari will oversee a team whose fast-twitch mission is to tell readers what matters most, no matter where in the world it occurs, during overnight hours in Washington when most of our main newsroom is asleep. The Seoul hub is part of a daily handoff in which key breaking-news responsibilities are passed from Washington to Seoul to London.

Hari was promoted to breaking-news editor in 2023 after joining The Post as a multiplatform editor, and he has excelled in both roles. He is currently filling in as early International editor, an assignment-editor role in which he works closely with correspondents around the world who start their days on time zones many hours ahead of Washington.

He is a graduate of the University of Tasmania and earned a master’s in journalism at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. He had worked previously in reporting and editing roles in publications across Asia and the Pacific, including the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong and newspapers in Australia, Malaysia and China, including stints in covering sports that have allowed him to indulge his love of football (the kind that is played with your feet, as Hari helpfully points out).

Please congratulate Hari on his new role and wider responsibilities.
