How The Washington Post will report live election results in 2024

The Post relies on nonpartisan groups with decades of experience tallying the vote and calling winners, in addition to the Post Pulse election model

Posted

The Washington Post will report results and winners for more than 500 elections being held across the country through Tuesday, including votes for president in every state and D.C., 34 U.S. Senate races, 11 races for governor, 435 U.S. House seats as well as state ballot initiatives on abortion and other issues. Additionally, we’ll provide results for our local readers from contests in Maryland, Virginia and the District.

Our top priority is reporting accurate information to our audience as quickly as possible, while being transparent about where we get our data and how we decide what to publish. The Associated Press provides the vast majority of the race calls that The Post will report, but we’ve chosen to consult other sources — such as Edison Research, which provides election results to several TV networks and Reuters, and our election forecast called Post Pulse — before reporting race calls in key presidential states and Senate contests.
