Ilaria Parogni is joining the Flex Desk at The New York Times

We are delighted to share the news that Ilaria Parogni is joining the Flexible Editing desk as a senior staff editor later this month.

Ilaria embedded with our desk for several weeks in 2022 and impressed us with her thorough and thoughtful approach to story editing, so we’re excited for her to join us more permanently.

She comes to Flex from the Home team, where she has been a staff editor for Storylines for the past two and a half years. In that role, she wrote, edited and updated the hundreds of text modules that allow readers to navigate thematically related articles on The Times’s website. She also helped program the display of culture and lifestyle articles on the home page.

Ilaria joined The Times in 2016 and spent five years on the editorial team of the company’s licensing division, starting out as a fact-checking intern and eventually becoming a senior editor. Her duties included commissioning and editing articles and opinion essays for The Times’s news service clients and licensed publications.

In addition to writing for The Times, Ilaria has had her work published in Quartz, The Moscow Times and The Nation. Before moving to New York to earn her master’s in journalism and Russian studies, she was the editor of The Kompass, a website covering Russian culture, and the director of social media for Russia Beyond the Headlines, a multimedia initiative focused on Russian news.

Born and raised in central Italy, Ilaria has also spent time in Britain and Russia.

Her first day on Flex is March 25. Please join us in welcoming her.
