The United States’ top intelligence officials are delivering their annual global threat assessment to Congress on Tuesday, a day after a bombshell report that the vice president, secretary of defense, national security adviser and other top Cabinet members used a commercial messaging app to discuss secret war plans for Yemen and inadvertently included a journalist in the group chat.
Congressional Democrats have erupted in shock and outrage over the apparent lapse in operational security, and they have called for investigations. They have also promised to raise the episode this morning’s high-profile public hearing before the Senate Select Intelligence Committee.
