IRE President Young Leaving 'Atlanta Journal-Constitution' For 'USA Today'

By: Joe Strupp Alison Young, president of Investigative Reporters and Editors -- who also writes the Watchdog column for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution -- will leave the paper later this month to join USA Today.

With 20 years in the business that included covering the nearby Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Young is well-prepared to take on a new health reporting job at the Gannett Co. flagship.

But she plans to remain at the helm for IRE as well, at least until her term is up in June.

"It is a wonderful opportunity to return to national reporting," says Young, 43, who previously worked at Knight Ridder's Washington bureau (now McClatchy). "My new job will be doing enterprise and watchdog reporting - it is a very good fit."
