The Washington Post has named Jason Anders to its masthead as managing editor of its News Hub, a newly created leadership role tasked with leading and building the publication’s central news desk.
Anders is known for his experienced newsroom leadership and digital innovation at The Wall Street Journal, where he worked for 25 years, most recently as deputy editor-in-chief. He will report to Executive Editor Matt Murray and lead a team responsible for the daily news agenda, including editing, curating, publishing and presenting content for The Post’s website and app.
“Jason is deeply familiar with the opportunities and challenges we face as we reorient our workflows and publishing schedule, sharpen our digital interface and build out the news desk,” shared Murray. “His keen understanding of how product and news intersect, paired with his pulse on changing technology in user experience, will be of tremendous value in our next chapter.”
In addition to serving as deputy editor-in-chief at The Journal, he also held the senior roles of chief news editor, business editor, deputy editor of Page One, senior editor for corporate news and technology editor. He joined The Journal in 1998, serving as one of its first digital reporters.
“I am thrilled and honored to be joining the incredible journalists at The Post, who are doing some of the most important and innovative work anywhere today,” said Anders.
The Post’s revamped News Hub, first announced by Murray in March as part of several larger structural changes, is designed to centralize the highest content and experience standards on all Post digital platforms. It follows the creation of three new departments: Futures, National and Politics and Government, led by Zach Goldfarb, Jennifer Amur and Lori Montgomery, respectively.
Anders’ addition to The Post marks the third managing editor appointment by Murray. Anders joins current Managing Editors Liz Seymour, Peter Spiegel and Scott Vance.
