Announcement from Director of Photography MaryAnne Golon, Deputy Director of Photography Sandra M. Stevenson and Foreign Photo Editor Olivier Laurent:

We are thrilled to announce that Jintak Han has joined The Washington Post as a breaking news photo editor based in our Seoul hub.

In this new role, Jintak will lead the visual coverage in breaking news situations, as well as illustrate news and enterprise stories and help curate the photos on the homepage during the overnight hours in Washington. This position in Seoul allows the Photo Department to support the newsroom’s 24-hour cycle.

Before joining The Post, Jintak was a freelance photojournalist, working for agencies such as Zuma Press and the USA Today Network. He interned at the Denver Post and the Hankook Ilbo, a South Korean national daily. He is finishing a master’s degree in photography from Ohio University and holds a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from UCLA with a specialty in modern Japanese.

A native of Seoul, Jintak immigrated to the United States as a child in 2005 and became a naturalized citizen in 2010. He looks forward to finally adopting a cat when he returns to Seoul!

Jintak will spend a month training in the D.C. newsroom — he started March 6 and will join the Seoul hub in mid-April.

Please join us in welcoming him to The Post!
