Joe Van Acker joins New York Times Opinion

Posted

I am delighted to announce that Joe Van Acker is joining Opinion as a senior project manager.

Joe will work closely with me, Kate Elazegui, Meeta Agrawal, Brian Zittel and many others across Opinion to help organize our most ambitious work, foster collaboration across teams and manage the daily deadlines and requests for branding, design, art direction and technical know-how that touch all of our work.

Joe’s is a new role for Opinion, but it’s definitely not new to The Times, and neither is Joe. Since joining the company three years ago, Joe has coordinated the starts of different editorial formats with the Storytelling and XFun teams. His leadership in managing the 2024 election readiness effort, coordinating across the entire organization and navigating more than 40 teams, was particularly impressive. His current colleagues praised his ability to handle complex projects, his composure under pressure and his deep understanding of The Times’s technical and product ecosystems.

Joe has more than a decade of experience in tech and media, having worked at Time Inc. and Apple before joining The Times. He was also a reporter at Law360. He studied history at the College of William and Mary and journalism at Northwestern University.

Welcome to Opinion, Joe!
