Journalist wants to restore sheriff as defendant in press freedom lawsuit

A former Pike County journalist who sued the county over alleged violation of his free press rights is trying to pull Sheriff Tracy Evans back into the case as a defendant, five months after a federal judge dismissed the claims in the lawsuit that were specifically against Evans.

An attorney for the county has opposed the move, alleging that plaintiff Derek Myers is supporting his request to reinstate Evans as a defendant with factual claims that are “blatantly false.”
