An announcement from Congress Editor Emily Rauhala, Politics and Government Deputy Editor Nick Baumann, Politics and Government Editor Lori Montgomery and Managing Editor Peter Spiegel:
We’re happy to announce that Kadia Goba is joining The Washington Post as a Congress reporter. In this new role, she will join forces with Marianna Sotomayor to cover the U.S. House of Representatives and work across the department to break news on the relationship between Congress and the White House and other key storylines.
Kadia joins from Semafor, where she helped launch the outlet’s political coverage as a congressional reporter and earned a reputation for scoopy reporting. She was the first to report on an investigation into former Sen. Bob Menendez. Her reporting also highlighted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s new status in Washington and former Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s confrontational style. During the 2024 campaign, Kadia interviewed Donald Trump twice, focusing primarily on the candidate’s relationship with Black voters.
Before joining Semafor, Kadia covered national politics at BuzzFeed News, focusing on the Republican Party, Congress and Trump’s 2020 campaign. She previously reported on Congress for Axios. As a reporting fellow for the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, she also reported on environmental challenges in Sierra Leone.
Please join us in welcoming Kadia to The Post. She starts on July 7.
