News/Media Alliances joins amicus brief in Associated Press v. Budowich

Posted

In advance of the Associated Press v. Budowich hearing, the News/Media Alliance joined, pending the Court's acceptance, an amicus brief filed by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press in support of The Associated Press.

This amicus brief outlines the historic function of the White House press pool in guaranteeing the free flow of information about the presidency to the public, and makes the case that any attempt to punish a news organization for “the exercise of editorial control and judgment” strikes at the heart of the First Amendment’s protections for a free press. The First Amendment leaves the choice of how to cover public issues to the free press, not the federal government.

Read the amicus brief.
