Joel Thompson Davis passed away in Sacramento on Wednesday, April 23, at the age of 62. ...

Joel's journalism career began in 1986 as a reporter for The Davis Enterprise. He occasionally columned in the newspaper, following in the footsteps of his professional idol Mr. Bob Dunning, who was incredibly kind to Joel. Joel then moved on to become entertainment editor/critic for the Eureka Times Standard, allowing him the opportunity to see many a show.  

Joel taught at both American River College and Sacramento State University and was the publication editor of the California Newspaper Publisher’s Association. His freelance work for the Sacramento News & Review included “The (Heart) of the Gray Matter,” his own story about undergoing deep brain stimulation implant surgery (similar to the actor Michael J. Fox) in 2004, which at the time was leading-edge. 

Joel’s life work and what he’d most like to be remembered for was his book “Justice Waits,” about the then-unsolved December 1980 murders of John Riggins and Sabrina Gonsalves ...
