We are excited to announce that Randy Pennell, who has edited a wide range of big stories at The Times and elsewhere, will be joining the Live team as a senior editor. He brings years of experience covering breaking news on a wide range of topics, from pandemic relief efforts to the arrest and trial of Jerry Sandusky.

“I’m really pumped to get back to my roots,” he said.

Randy comes to Live from Business, where he has worked as the finance deputy for the past four years, helping lead coverage on everything from Trump and Deutsche Bank to Jeffrey Epstein’s fortune. He was a key editor on stories about student loan debt, including the government’s efforts to overhaul the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. He started at The Times as a copy editor on Sports.

Before that, he spent more than a decade at The Associated Press as a reporter and editor, writing from the 2008 World Series and editing coverage of major news events including the Boston Marathon bombing. One story that has stayed with him: The New Jersey man who harvests the special mud that gets rubbed on all the baseballs used in the majors.

Please welcome him to Live.
