Earl Johnson | Report for America
The deadline to submit an application for consideration as a Report for America host newsroom is Friday, Sept. 13. Complete your application here.
Report for America is a national service program that places talented journalists — corps members — into local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities.
Report for America has:
- Placed close to 700 reporters into nearly 400 newsrooms in all 50 states to help report on under-covered topics and communities
- Invested more than $20 million in direct salary support to newsrooms through our innovative cost-sharing service model (and millions more in training and support)
- We matched this investment with an additional $30 million in local donations we helped newsrooms raise.
- Report for America has become one of the nation’s most diverse pipelines of journalists, with nearly half of our corps members identifying as journalists of color; and two-thirds as women.
If selected to the program, newsrooms will:
- Gain access to a great local reporter who is passionate about the beat the newsroom designated a need for coverage
- Receive financial support expanding your coverage by paying half of the salary of the reporter for the first year and 33% of the salary the second year
- Connect with our Local News Sustainability Team to help newsrooms raise money from the local community
