We’re happy to announce that Sean Collins is joining The Washington Post as a deputy Congress editor. In this role, Sean will help lead our authoritative coverage of the legislative branch while serving as primary editor of our flagship political newsletter, the Early Brief.
Sean joins The Post from Vox, where he was most recently a news editor focused on the Supreme Court and a successful daily newsletter called Today, Explained. Sean also shaped Vox’s coverage of the legal battles of President Donald Trump’s second term, President Joe Biden’s legislative agenda, the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, both Trump impeachments and an array of elections.
As a writer at Vox, Sean has explored the meaning of the Juneteenth national holiday, the effects of police misconduct on Black life and the influence of white nationalism on Trump’s White House. Earlier in his career, he wrote and edited for Blavity on pop culture, foreign affairs, politics and technology.
Originally from Chicago, Sean graduated from MIT with a degree in chemical engineering.
