Simon Hicks joins The New York Times as SVP, Data Platforms

The New York Times Company announces that Simon Hicks is joining as senior vice president and lead for the Data Platform Mission, reporting to Jason Sobel, chief technology officer.

In this role, Simon will partner closely with Kendell Timmers, senior vice president and head of Data and Insights, and Hannah Poferl, chief data officer and head of audience, to elevate The Times’ data strategy and utilization of these insights to build digital products, understand The Times’ audience and produce world-class journalism.

Simon joins The Times from digital health company Noom, where he integrated data science, analytics, machine learning and bedrock engineering technologies to build a platform that supported the company through a growth period. His accomplishments there include creating a machine learning production platform and team and fostering a collaborative, transparent and growth-oriented culture. His previous professional experience also includes engineering, product and software development roles at Coatue Management and Palantir.

Simon is looking forward to working with the team and strengthening our data platform in ways that enhance our journalism.
