The Center Square is proud to announce the addition of two key team members who will help advance its mission of delivering high-quality, impactful journalism across the country. Arthur Kane has joined as managing editor and will lead The Center Square’s newly forming Enterprise and Investigations Unit. At the same time, Esther Wickham joins as a 2025 Searle Freedom Trust apprentice reporter covering education in both print and video formats.
Kane is an award-winning reporter, editor, producer, executive producer and author with more than 30 years of experience in investigative and enterprise journalism. He has held editorial leadership roles at major metro news outlets including The Denver Post, Las Vegas Review-Journal and KMGH-TV in Denver. Over his distinguished career, Kane has been recognized with two duPont-Columbia Awards, a Peabody Award and has been twice named Outstanding Journalist of the Year by the Nevada Press Foundation. He is the author of “The Last Story: The Murder of an Investigative Journalist in Las Vegas,” published in 2024.
Wickham has worked as a reporter for a range of outlets and spent the past year and a half training student journalists at top universities through a national nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. She graduated with honors from The King’s College in New York City, earning a B.A. in Journalism, Culture and Society with a pre-law minor. Originally from the West Coast, Wickham now resides in Southern California.
The addition of Kane and Wickham further reflects The Center Square’s commitment to strengthening its national reporting efforts and increasing its ability to tell compelling, nonpartisan stories that emphasize fiscal responsibility and government accountability.
“The Center Square is dedicated to strengthening American journalism by investing in seasoned editorial leadership and mentoring the next generation of reporters,” said Chris Krug, publisher of The Center Square and chief executive officer of the parent nonprofit, Franklin News Foundation. “Arthur’s experience in enterprise journalism and Esther’s passion for education reporting will be invaluable as we expand our reach and deepen our impact.”
