I am pleased to announce that Hanna Ingber, who has worked across The Times in a variety of strategic and editing roles over the past 11 years, will be joining the Express team this month as an editor taking on a variety of special projects aimed at building our audience and the newsroom’s breaking news muscles.
Hanna came to The Times as an early member of our first social media team, after working at what is now HuffPost, where she launched and ran the World vertical, and at GlobalPost, where she ran a breaking and trending news desk. Before that she was a journalist in Myanmar, Thailand and India. Her journey through The Times has included stops in International, Culture, Business and Obituaries, and the News Desk, and she has been involved in a variety of experimental initiatives, including the Reader Center, where she was editorial director. She and the team she hired pioneered series such as Behind the Byline and Understanding The Times, plus established best practices for reader callouts and transparency.
All of these experiences make Hanna a perfect fit for Express, as we continue our global expansion, build up our weekend staffing and strengthen our relationship with other desks, while experimenting with new types of coverage, story presentations and voice. She will play a critical role in all of these efforts and also help manage our diverse team’s mix of early career and veteran journalists.
“I like trying new things and pushing the boundaries of what Times journalism looks like,” Hanna said, “and how we as reporters and editors interact with our audience. Some of my favorite newsroom projects have been figuring out what the voice of The Times should be on a social platform or messaging app, or in a newsletter, or figuring out how to make the best use of our comments or reader feedback. It makes me giddy when we hear from readers who were so moved by a Times story that they felt inspired to share their own equally compelling experience.”
I suspect most of Hanna’s favorite Times projects are still ahead of her, on Express. Please welcome and congratulate her.
