Gannett, Co. Inc., owner of The Palm Beach Post, part of the USA TODAY Network, announced long-time journalist John Bisognano has been promoted to executive editor. Effective April 21, Bisognano will oversee all aspects of The Post’s editorial operations, including developing content strategy and innovation as well as engaging with the community and increasing efforts to reach new audiences.

“I'm honored and humbled to join the impressive list of executive editors who've served at The Palm Beach Post,” Bisognano said. “I am committed and focused on serving the community of Palm Beach county, while continuing to work with this talented, hard-working newsroom.”

Bisognano, 59, joined The Post in 1997, holding a number of positions including managing editor, senior editor, deputy news editor, courts editor, breaking news and digital editor, hurricane editor and assistant sports editor. He was most recently managing editor.

In 2024, Bisognano led The Palm Beaching Project, a sweeping, multi-part series that looked at the vast expansion of wealth in Palm Beach County since the pandemic, and the challenges it created. He helped oversee coverage of the Jeffrey Epstein case, including the ongoing lawsuit The Post filed to have the case’s grand jury transcripts released to the public, and The Post’s 2018 investigative series on how Florida ignited the heroin epidemic.

Bisognano was forefront in coverage of the 2016 election when Donald Trump won the presidency and oversaw coverage of Trump’s first term as president. He’s continued that effort for Trump’s second term and his use of Mar-a-Lago as the winter White House.

As hurricane editor, he led coverage of the 2004 hurricane season, and as deputy news editor, he was a main cog in The Post’s months-long coverage of the 2000 “butterfly ballot” election.

“John has a track record of producing journalism that is essential to the community it serves,” said Wendy Fullerton Powell, Gannett vice president and Florida region editor. “And we are confident that he will lead this award-winning newsroom to new heights of audience growth, digital innovation and powerful journalism.”

Bisognano began his career at The Boston Globe and previously worked for The Chicago Tribune. A graduate of Northeastern University, he lives with his wife and daughter in Palm Beach Gardens.
