The Washington Post announces 2023 Summer Intern Class

The Washington Post is thrilled to announce its 2023 summer intern class. For 60 years, The Post has welcomed college juniors, seniors and graduate students into the newsroom to work alongside some of the world’s best journalists. Over the years, many of those interns have stayed at The Post and gone on to produce consequential journalism with far-reaching impact. Some have won Pulitzer Prizes, including political enterprise and investigations reporter Rosalind Helderman (2001 intern) as a member of the team that covered the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol and for coverage of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election; 1964 intern Leonard Downie became executive editor; and Krissah Thompson, from the class of 2001, is a managing editor.

The interns represent 17 colleges and universities and will work as reporters, photographers, videographers, graphics reporters and developers, designers, editorial writers, multiplatform editors and producers, social media editors, and audio producers.

Two interns have been named Bradlee Fellows, in recognition of the courage and integrity that legendary Washington Post Executive Editor Benjamin C. Bradlee instilled in his newsroom. Founded in 2018, the Bradlee Fellows program is funded by a gift from Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward and his wife, journalist Elsa Walsh. This year, we will welcome our second Military Veterans in Journalism Fellow. University of Maryland graduate student Eve Sampson will report on the Foreign Desk and will receive the same introduction to the newsroom as the interns.
