An announcement from Congress Editor Emily Rauhala:
We are happy to announce new assignments on our Congress team.
After an incredible run covering the Senate, Liz Goodwin will become The Post’s congressional correspondent, delivering scoops, investigations and features from both chambers.
Over the past year Liz has broken news on Sen. Mark Warner assembling a group of Democrats to discuss urging Biden to withdraw, Sen. John Fetterman's unsafe driving history, questions surrounding Sen. Tim Sheehy's bullet wound, and the Trump administration’s broad encroachment on Congress’s power of the purse. During the 2024 election, she reported on the phenomenon of Republican candidates trailing Donald Trump, the elusive split-ticket voter’s big role in Senate races, and electric vehicles emerging as an unlikely political flashpoint in key races.
Theodoric Meyer is now the paper’s Senate reporter. Theo joins the Congress team after more than three successful and busy years at the helm of the Early Brief, The Post’s flagship political newsletter, writing more than 700 editions alongside former co-anchors Jacqueline Alemany and Leigh Ann Caldwell. He also wrote memorable stories about how Trump turned Iowa into a red state and on Sen. Sherrod Brown’s struggle to win over Trump voters to win reelection. He started last month.
Marianna Sotomayor will continue to lead The Post’s coverage of the House of Representatives. Marianna has been a force on the Hill since she joined The Post 4 years ago, breaking news on the 2023 speaker fight and driving The Post’s reporting on prominent Democrats urging President Biden to drop out of the 2024 election. Since November, she’s led our coverage of Trump’s relationship with speaker Mike Johnson. She sits on the standing committee of correspondents and is a mentor and ally to many on the Congress beat.
Lastly, Paul Kane will continue to serve as our congressional bureau chief and columnist par excellence, delivering his authoritative, bi-weekly dispatch from the Hill, PK Capitol. Over the last year, his must-read column has charted generational shifts, chaos in Congress and more chaos in Congress. His recent column on Nancy Pelosi, like so much of what he writes, shaped the conversation and was a hit with readers.
