An announcement from Climate & Environment Editor Zachary Goldfarb, Deputy Climate & Environment Editor Juliet Eilperin and Climate & Environment Visual Enterprise Editor Simon Ducroquet:

We are happy to announce that Daniel Wolfe is joining Climate & Environment as a visual journalist and a columnist for Climate Lab, our recurring column.

As a member of The Post’s graphics team since 2022, Daniel has often been focused on environmental and health impacts of news events. In the early days of the Israel-Hamas war, he examined waterborne disease risks for the people in Gaza. In a prescient piece just before the L.A. fires, he co-authored a story about how wildfires can introduce carcinogens into water utilities. As a Pulitzer Center fellow, he investigated the mysterious die offs of Gray Whales along the Pacific Coast, linking them to scarcer food sources as the seas warm.

With Climate Lab, which uses data and visuals to explore a wide range of scientific and climate-related subjects, Daniel hopes to bring the same light, curious voice he has demonstrated in recent years, with stories on testing readers on break-up texts written by ChatGPTwhy marijuana dispensaries have contrived names, or the mysterious tyranny of baby names, in which he led readers through the trials of picking a name for his newborn son and realized we all follow popular trends even when trying to be different. Daniel’s expressive visual style and perspective informs his approach, from satellite animations and personalized text threads to hand-drawn maps.

Daniel will co-anchor the Climate Lab column with fellow Climate visual journalist Niko Kommenda.

Before joining The Post, Daniel was the data and graphics editor for the National News desk at CNN.

He starts on April 14.
