Washington Post Engineering announces 2023 summer internship class

Washington Post Engineering is thrilled to announce its 2023 summer internship class, comprising 25 interns from 19 colleges and universities across 12 states.

This is the second class to be selected through Washington Post Engineering’s unified internship process, which allowed candidates to apply to all our teams with a single submission. Watch for the summer 2024 application on our careers site later this fall.

Interns are sorted in alphabetical order by team name.

Mit Patel (he/him) - Apps (Android)
Mit is from Atlanta, GA and a current junior at Georgia Tech studying computer science. He is a member of Georgia Tech’s VIP Smart Stadium project and part of the mobile development team. In his spare time, he likes to travel, hike and cook.

Anjali Singh (she/her) - Apps (iOS)
Anjali is from Cupertino, California. She is a sophomore at the University of Washington in Seattle majoring in computer science. Anjali is passionate about computing ethics and education, and has also developed a strong background in student journalism over the past five years. She also loves music, hiking and board games!

Aashish Anantha Ramakrishnan (he/him) - Data Science
Aashish is from Chennai, India. He is a second-year PhD Candidate in Informatics at The Pennsylvania State University. His research interests are in the area of Deep Learning, with a focus on understanding Neural Fake News generation approaches across image and text modalities. He is also a Violinist and the Vice President of the Society for Indian Music and Arts. His other hobbies include blog writing and playing badminton.

Raquib Bin Yousuf (he/him) - Data Science
Raquib is from Fairfax, Virginia. He is a PhD student in Computer Science at Virginia Tech. He is associated with the Sanghani Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics. His research work is in the area of natural language processing and applied machine learning. He loves to travel and explore history in his spare time.

Anna Hurd (she/her) - Global Talent Systems
Anna's hometown is Pelham, New York. She is a rising junior at Brown University studying computer science. On campus, she also plays on the Division 1 women's ice hockey team at Brown and works as an undergraduate teaching assistant. In her spare time, she loves to read, write and spend time with close friends.

Andrew Bempong (he/him) - News Engineering
Andrew is from Gaithersburg, Maryland. He is a sophomore at Stanford University, pursuing a Computer Science degree, who volunteers as a Course Helper through Stanford Black in Computer Science. Previously, Andrew worked at a technology startup where he built interactive tools to facilitate social good through education. In his spare time, he loves traveling, soccer and playing the guitar.

Karen Wang (she/her) - News Engineering
Karen is from Nanjing, China. She is currently pursuing a dual M.S. in Journalism and Computer Science at Columbia University (Class of 2024). She is a data fellow at Brown Institute for Media Innovation and also previously worked as a data fellow at McClatchy. She also interned at BuzzFeed News as an investigative reporter and at LAist to improve the newsroom's source tracking system.

Paulette Del Valle Medina (she/her) - News Engineering
Paulette is from Cayey, Puerto Rico. She’s currently a junior at Columbia University majoring in Computer Science and Creative Writing. She’s also involved in the Columbia Daily Spectator as a graphics staff member. In her free time, you can usually find her crocheting, journaling or binging some reality TV.

Risha Surana (she/her) - News Engineering
Risha is from Chatham, New Jersey. She is a rising sophomore at the University of Southern California studying computer science and mathematics. In her free time, she serves as a first responder and enjoys figure skating.

Samuel Shi (he/him) - News Engineering
Sam is from Carmel, Indiana. He is a graduating senior at Indiana University majoring in computer science and minoring in history and Chinese. Sam is also interested in learning about blockchain technology. His hobbies include producing music, fishing and playing strategy games.

Anuj Khemka (he/him) - Publishing Tools
Anuj is from Arlington, Virginia. He is a first-year Computer Science major at the University of South Florida. He enjoys watching nature documentaries, reading fantasy novels and exploring places on his bike.

Chris Xu (he/him) - Publishing Tools
Chris is from Chongqing, China. He is a first-year graduate student in Computer Science at New York University. He has been a part-time SDE intern in NYU IT for almost a year now. He loves coding, but outside school and work, he also loves to go skiing during winter. He has a cute doggy too!

Keerthy Reddy (she/her) - Publishing Tools
Keerthy is from San Jose, California. She is a rising junior pursuing a Computer Science major and Political Science minor at San Jose State University. She is passionate about working on addressing current social and political issues using technology. Outside of school, she loves to bake and go hiking.

Natalie McCoy (she/her) - Publishing Tools
Natalie is from Owensboro, Kentucky. She is a junior at Sullivan University studying Cybersecurity. While working on her degree she discovered a passion for software development. Recently, she put that passion to use when she was asked to create an application for a private school. In addition to programming, she enjoys horseback riding, playing piano and traveling.

Morgan Kinne (she/her) - Site Core
Morgan is from Deerfield Beach, Florida. She is a rising Junior at the University of Virginia studying Computer Science in the Engineering School. She’s also a member of WiCyS (Women in Cyber Security) and Trigon Engineering Society. She enjoys reading, cooking and coffee.

Caroline Dinh (she/her) - Site Design Systems
Caroline is from Rockville, Maryland. She is a rising junior at the University of Maryland with a major in Immersive Media Design and a minor in Digital Storytelling & Poetics. On campus, she is involved with the XR Club and the college radio station, and she hopes to apply her studies to tell stories with technology. Caroline loves creative writing, indie publishing and rock music.

Maxim Slobodchikov (he/him) - Site Frontend
Maxim is from Lexington, Massachusetts. He is a sophomore at Boston University studying Computer Science and Public Policy. When he's not beatboxing with his a cappella group In Achord, you can find him teaching web equity and inclusion with Hack4Impact, or writing for the Emerald Review, Boston's only student-run environmental magazine. Let him know if you need a running or ultimate frisbee partner!

Pann Sripitak (he/him) - Site Frontend
Pann is from Bangkok, Thailand. He is a sophomore at Stanford University majoring in Computer Science and pursuing a minor in Ethics and Technology. Outside of classes, he is involved in research projects at the Computation & Cognition Lab and the Virtual Human Interaction Lab. He also enjoys reading, learning the guitar and watching soccer.

Shannon Bonet (she/her) - Site Platform
Shannon is graduating this spring from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Cognitive Science. She started her computer science journey building apps with Blueprint Technology for Nonprofits, and continues to seek out projects with tangible, real world impact. In her free time, she enjoys reading and raving.

Brandon Gong (he/him) - Subscriptions
Brandon is from Collierville, Tennessee. He is a rising junior studying applied mathematics and computer science at Brown University. Previously, he interned with the National Institutes of Health, where he developed tools to streamline research in rare diseases. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis, practicing piano and working on esoteric coding projects.

Isha Mody (she/her) - Subscriptions
Isha is from Mumbai, India. She studies Computer Science and Psychology at Brown University (Class of 2024). She is passionate about the intersection of technology and decision-making. Her other interests include making jewelry, discovering new blogs and spreading mental health awareness.

Oliver Zink (he/him) - Subscriptions
Oliver is from Mill Valley, California. He is a junior at Skidmore College studying computer science and business. Outside of school he enjoys surfing and getting outdoors.

Sagar Gupta (he/him) - Subscriptions
Sagar is from Herndon, Virginia. He is a sophomore Computer Science major at Georgia Tech specializing in artificial intelligence and information networks. Outside of school, he enjoys writing poetry, playing badminton and going on road trips.

Sawdah Munir (she/her) - Subscriptions
Sawdah is from Ellicott City, Maryland. She is a rising junior studying Computer Science, with a minor in Creative Writing, at the University of Maryland, College Park. In her free time, she enjoys knitting, crocheting and expanding her reading tastes.

Yuyan Lei (she/her) - Subscriptions
Yuyan Lei is from Shanghai, China. She is a graduate student majoring in Computer Science at Northeastern University. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and playing with her cat Mochi.
