We are delighted to announce that Yasmeen Abutaleb is moving into a new role as a White House reporter, joining our first-in-class team covering President Biden and his administration.
For the last three years, Yasmeen has covered health policy for The Post, chronicling the responses of the Trump and Biden administrations to the coronavirus pandemic with deep reporting and sharp accountability pieces. She was part of a team of reporters who wrote a six-part series about Trump's mismanagement of covid and helped deliver several scoops, including stories that revealed Jared Kushner’s formation of a volunteer supply chain task force made up of 20-somethings with no government experience, an internal CDC presentation that declared “the war has changed” with the delta variant before health officials publicly acknowledged breakthrough infections were happening and Trump’s embrace of a deadly “herd immunity” strategy before vaccines and treatments were available.
In her short time filling in on the White House team this summer, Yasmeen has already made her mark as a tenacious reporter and collaborative partner on the beat. She has reported on the slow-footed response by the Biden administration to the Supreme Court’s decision overturning abortion rights, how the president’s handling of three journalists’ deaths complicated his vow to put human rights at the forefront of his foreign policy and Biden’s extreme discomfort over meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Yasmeen also co-wrote the New York Times No. 1 bestseller “Nightmare Scenario: Inside the Trump Administration’s Response to the Pandemic That Changed History” with Deputy Business Editor Damian Paletta.
Before joining The Post in 2019, Yasmeen was a reporter for five years at Reuters, where she covered health care.
As a journalist, she is following in the footsteps of her late grandfather, who was a radio journalist for Voice of America in Egypt, Greece and the United States. Yasmeen veered from the long line of engineers and scientists in her family, but to their relief she still ended up married to an engineer. She and her husband live in Maryland, along with their two cats.
