So the statement from a Times spokesperson posted to the site on April 25 stood out: “For anyone who understands the role of the free press in a democracy, it should be troubling that President Biden has so actively and effectively avoided questions from independent journalists during his term,” said the release, which followed a Politico article about a beef between the White House and the Times.
